While many designers like to say that they were born into their vocation, few have the background to actually support it. As a young child watching her father (a master painter and paper hanger) practice his trade, bahia knew that design was her future. For over fifteen years, she has created stunning spaces for her clients, utilizing her keen sense of style and an unerring sense of colour. Her affiliation with benjamin moore began ten years ago, when she became their first certified in-home colour specialist in manitoba. In 2007, she launched envy paint & design ltd. And in 2009 opened the doors of the one-stop, full-service, customer focused store for her clients; in 2014, that dream will grow exponentially as the company moves into our new design centre. A well respected leader in the design community, bahia is treasurer of the manitoba branch of the canadian decorators’ association, a director of the paint and decorating retailers’ association, and co-founder and editor-in-chief of covet magazine. She plans to take a day off in 2017.
An old, solid wood desk that I topped with stainless steel and painted white. It’s my kitchen island.
A live in chef, housekeeper, chauffeur, gardener and personal trainer.
I remember repeatedly asking my mother if I could rearrange the living room, even as early as age five. My father was a painter and wallpaper hanger, and I used to love flipping through the books and paint chips he had and seeing what the designers he worked for had selected for him to install – I was hooked. In fact, he used to always say that I would be an interior designer one day… I guess father knows best!
Textiles. Love them. When we receive new fabric books (and wallpaper too for that matter) for our library at envy, everything grinds to a halt while everyone looks through and weighs in on the collections.
Gosh… I have no idea. They would likely say I am a more is more kind of gal. I love pattern on pattern and to push the envelope and my clients just a smidge out of their comfort zone. I always want an interesting or unexpected element in a room and will often do that by highlighting a client’s personal interest, collection or a sentimental piece. I love a good vintage vibe or industrial nod in a classic space.
The details. Presenting the details. And a client who gets the details.
Hmmmm….Perhaps a florist – I absolutely love beautiful blooms!

TWO-COLOUR COMBO
I’m very fickle when it comes to favourites, but currently I’m loving a classic scheme of camel and gray.
SPACE YOU’VE DESIGNED
There are a lot of spaces that I really love. I often tell clients how jealous I am of the great things they are getting in their homes. But there are a few projects that stand out for me, not only for the end result of the projects, but for the lovely people I got to meet and work with. When you have clients that defer to you and give you carte blanche it’s such a joy – and truth be told – those projects always turn out the best and have the most delighted homeowners.
